I never know what has ever brought my family to be in this turmoil. Why must you torture my family so much? they have tried so hard to follow ur ways, to walk your path, to forgive each other, yet you always allow satan to creep between them! Satan just you get out of our lives forever!

Lord the bible said that only your ways are higher, but Lord why do you always make my family suffer so much? Trials and tribulations, one after another. You know, we are all sick of it. Other families live such good lives, and they dun even trust in you, dun even believe you exist. Why do you let those who know and believe in you suffer? The ungodly seem to be more powerful, lead easier lives, lead happier lives that then godly. The unjust always gets the last laugh, and the just always gets their punishment.

WHy do you allow this to happen???? Christians.. hiaz. Am I the only one suffering from so much turmoil? YOu have made it so difficult for me. even to just chase that piece of paper which one who dun even believe in you can get so damn easily, while for me, always dependent on you, am still chasing it after 7 years??!!! WHY?? WHy dont you just tell me that i am not meant to be that phd  that i always wanted? WHy did you not tell me that i’m meant to be that hidden person always working  in the background, letting others outshine me always?

I’m so sick of it. So sick of my rotten life. the nightmares, the insecurities, the lack of passion, the will to live. Why do I feel this way? ”

i want my family to be living in comfort and happiness, to be successful with a stable job, a job which i like, one which allows me to mould others. And even that you had to take away from me. WHy LOrd??? Why? You gave me an environment which I have grown to dislike, students whom I have grown to dislike to teach and associate, a piece of paper which to me is no longer meaningful to achieve, parents who cannot live in peace.

why lord why?

Medical interpretations of the PowerPoint presentation October 18, 2008

Just something i felt was interesting to read, since most of us would be able to identify with the most common way of presentations. This was published in one of the most famous scientific journals. Adapted from BMJ 2007;335;1292

———————————————

The main purpose of a PowerPoint presentation is entertainment. Intellectual content is an unwarranted distraction. In preparing a PowerPoint presentation, aesthetics should transcend substance. The background colour scheme and logo for your slides should be selected for maximum emetogenic potential. The first inverse ridicule rule of PowerPoint presentation states: “The more lines of writing that can be coerced onto a slide and the smaller the font, the lower the risk of anyone criticising any data which has accidentally been included.” The second rule states: “The number of slides you can show in your allotted time is inversely proportional to the number of awkward questions which can be asked at the end.” PowerPoint has superseded the carousel era, when presentations were severely limited by the number of slots in the slide carousel and the risk of dropping the lot seconds before your talk. Plagiarism laws do not apply to PowerPoint, so cartoons of marginal relevance but high entertainment value can be downloaded and shown at suitable intervals to maintain audience mirth while minimising critical capacity. Research has shown that the ideal cartoon: data ratio is 5:1. The seasoned PowerPoint artist or PowerPointilliste has refined the presentation into a son-et-lumiere extravaganza, in which scattered dots and luminescent clumps of meaningless datasets hurtle on to the screen from all points of the compass, to the strident strains of Handel’s Fireworks Music, building inexorably to a Fantasia-style Sorcerer’s Apprentice climax. This fulfils an important subsidiary purpose of the PowerPoint presentation—to act as a bioassay of the epileptic threshold of the audience, a form of PowerPoint EEG. PowerPoint has spawned a number of hitherto unrecognised diseases. These include PowerPoint phobia (PPP), PowerPoint stress disorder (PPSD), and a form of depression called PowerPointlessness. Yet another purpose of the PowerPoint presentation is to test the capacity of the regional electricity grid. In case this should be found wanting, and your presentation succeeds in fusing the power supply to the surrounding region, it is advisable to have a back-up presentation, a box of matches and a Chinese lantern.

When life stands still… October 14, 2008

How do you feel when you have a rude awakening? Do you look back on your life and ponder upon the past? That was what happened to me…Received a shocking news today. A friend passed away… Not very close, but i knew her. And the thing is, she was too young to die… The mood around me was all in a depressed state, and not everyone was in a good mood. I got scolded also, not becos of what i did wrong, but rather, i guess this person just wanted to let it out, and I became the scapegoat…

The last time I had someone close who died was quite a while ago… but the feeling’s different now. I cried for the longest time before, but today, I just felt immune. Couldn’t express my feelings verbally or emotionally, but I could feel my heart bleeding…

It makes me really think back on my life… And to treasure my close ones before I lose the chance…

Just a perl rambling entrapped in the castle, dark and cold…

Weekend blunders August 25, 2008

A very “eventful” weekend I must say, but unfortunately, it came with traumas also…

Started with the launch of the iPhone 3G, and the one wanted to go get it. Ordered it already before, and had to go collect it. SO i spent the afternoon, from lunch at noon waited there for him to collect. Finally collected it and it was ard 3+ liao.. hiaz… then he got quite impatient, and kinda raised his voice at me at some point. I just let it go…

Next day, went to eason chan autograph signing session. was dragged there cos *guess why*… And that celebrity purposely had to arrive one hr late just becos of his celeb status. Then sing few songs, play one game with winners of the 933 caller contest, and some audience contest.  then the queue to sign was so long it went all the way outside of hmv to the carpark behind! had to wait for him to autograph for the one, and ended up already in evening 6+.

Then got out, it was drizzling… went to traffic light to cross, and guess what! A bus drove past and splashed a puddle of water ALL OVER ME! ARRGGH! What kinda day is this man?!

Went at night to Asian lounge to see Eason’s mini gig, and he arrived one hr late again!! but at least this time he sang more songs. and more fun games, although it was so stupid, juz wanted to make fun of the contestants.

Wasted my weekend not doing work.. although it was a weekend of ups and downs… but then… hiaz. the things I do for the one, but yet its juz like a shadow…

Anyway, enjoy the photos.

F.Y.I. Where to be During an Earthquake May 28, 2008

Remember that stuff about hiding under a table or standing in a doorway?? Well, this guy has a completely reverse opinion. This is very interesting, different from what we were all taught.

Boy! Is this ever an eye opener. Directly opposite of what we’ve been taught over the years! I can remember in school being told to, ‘duck and cover’ or stand in a doorway during an earthquake. This guy’s findings is absolutely amazing. I hope we all remember his survival method if we are ever in an earthquake!!!

Please read this and pass the info along to your family members; it could save their lives someday!

EXTRACT FROM DOUG COPP’S ARTICLE ON THE: ‘TRIANGLE OF LIFE’

My name is Doug Copp. I am the Rescue Chief and Disaster Manager of the
American Rescue Team International (ARTI), the world’s most experienced
rescue team. The information in this article will save lives in an earthquake.

I have crawled inside 875 collapsed buildings, worked with rescue teams
from 60 countries, founded rescue teams in several countries, and I am a
member of many rescue teams from many countries.

I was the United Nations expert in Disaster Mitigation for two years. I
have worked at every major disaster in the world since 1985, except for
simultaneous disasters.

The first building I ever crawled inside of was a school in Mexico City
during the 1985 earthquake. Every child was under its desk. Every child
was crushed to the thickness of their bones.. They could have survived by
lying down next to their desks in the aisles. It was obscene, unnecessary and
I wondered why the children were not in the aisles. I didn’t at the time
know that the children were told to hide under something.

Simply stated, when buildings collapse, the weight of the ceilings
falling upon the objects or furniture inside crushes these objects, leaving a
space or void next to them. This space is what I call the ‘triangle of life’.
The larger the object, the stronger, the less it will compact. The less the
object compacts, the larger the void, the greater the probability that
the person who is using this void for safety will not be injured. The next
time you watch collapsed buildings, on television, count the ‘triangles’ you
see formed. They are everywhere. It is the most common shape, you will see,
in a collapsed building..

TIPS FOR EARTHQUAKE SAFETY

1) Most everyone who simply ‘ducks and covers’ WHEN BUILDINGS COLLAPSE are crushed to death. People who get under objects, like desks or cars, are crushed.

2) Cats, dogs and babies often naturally curl up in the fetal position.
You should too in an earthquake. It is a natural safety/survival instinct. You can survive in a smaller void. Get next to an object, next to a sofa, next to a large bulky object that will compress slightly but leave a void next to it.

3) Wooden buildings are the safest type of construction to be in during
an earthquake. Wood is flexible and moves with the force of the earthquake.
If the wooden building does collapse, large survival voids are created.
Also, the wooden building has less concentrated, crushing weight. Brick
buildings will break into individual bricks. Bricks will cause many injuries but
less squashed bodies than concrete slabs.

4) If you are in bed during the night and an earthquake occurs, simply
roll off the bed. A safe void will exist around the bed. Hotels can achieve a
much greater survival rate in earthquakes, simply by posting a sign on The back of the door of every room telling occupants to lie down on the floor, next to the bottom of the bed during an earthquake.

5) If an earthquake happens and you cannot easily escape by getting out
the door or window, then lie down and curl up in the fetal position next to
a sofa, or large chair.

6) Most everyone who gets under a doorway when buildings collapse is
killed. How? If you stand under a doorway and the doorjamb falls forward or
backward you will be crushed by the ceiling above. If the door jam falls sideways you will be cut in half by the doorway. In either case, you will be killed!

7) Never go to the stairs. The stairs have a different ‘moment of
frequency’ (they swing separately from the main part of the building).
The stairs and remainder of the building continuously bump into each
other until structural failure of the stairs takes place. The people who get
on stairs before they fail are chopped up by the stair treads – horribly
mutilated. Even if the building doesn’t collapse, stay away from the
stairs. The stairs are a likely part of the building to be damaged. Even if the
stairs are not collapsed by the earthquake, they may collapse later when
overloaded by fleeing people. They should always be checked for safety,
even when the rest of the building is not damaged.

8) Get Near the Outer Walls Of Buildings Or Outside Of Them If Possible
- It is much better to be near the outside of the building rather than
the interior. The farther inside you are from the outside perimeter of the
building the greater the probability that your escape route will be
blocked.

9) People inside of their vehicles are crushed when the road above falls
in an earthquake and crushes their vehicles; which is exactly what happened
with the slabs between the decks of the Nimitz Freeway. The victims of
the San Francisco earthquake all stayed inside of their vehicles. They were
all killed. They could have easily survived by getting out and sitting or
lying next to their vehicles. Everyone killed would have survived if they had
been able to get out of their cars and sit or lie next to them. All the
crushed cars had voids 3 feet high next to them, except for the cars that had
columns fall directly across them.

10) I discovered, while crawling inside of collapsed newspaper offices
and other offices with a lot of paper, that paper does not compact.
Large voids are found surrounding stacks of paper.

Spread the word and save someone’s life… The Entire world is
experiencing natural calamities so be prepared!

‘We are but angels with one wing, it takes two to fly’

In 1996 we made a film, which proved my survival methodology to be
correct. The Turkish Federal Government, City of Istanbul , University of
Istanbul Case Productions and ARTI cooperated to film this practical, scientific
test. We collapsed a school and a home with 20 mannequins inside. Ten
mannequins did ‘duck and cover,’ and ten mannequins I used in my
‘triangle of life’ survival method. After the simulated earthquake collapse we
crawled through the rubble and entered the building to film and document the
results. The film, in which I practiced my survival techniques under
directly observable, scientific conditions , relevant to building collapse, showed there would have been zero percent survival for those doing duck
and cover.

There would likely have been 100 percent survivability for people using
my method of the ‘triangle of life.’ This film has been seen by millions
of viewers on television in Turkey and the rest of Europe , and it was seen
in the USA , Canada and Latin America on the TV program Real TV

This is my first post in this blog. To all my readers, I have attached a set of lego which I have personally done in the last few days. I seldom do this, but due to the recent stress of the exams, I kinda bought it on impulse and started assembling. Enjoy!
